Okay, so I’m a little late. I’m two weeks into a Software Engineering Bootcamp now, but I figured why not update y’all and tell you how exactly it’s going. I have been pretty nervous as this is a big transition, and I’m still figuring out what the future as a software engineer looks like.
This chapter beings where another ends. On December 13th, 2021, I began my journey to become a Full Stack Web Developer at Flatiron School.
The process has most definitely been a change of pace, but for the better. We started with nearly 60 hours of work before the course even started, to enter us into the world of software. From learning HTML, CSS, and now our introduction to Javascript. Sitting down for nearly 10 hours a day trying to perfect a craft that is completely foreign is a task that I never imagined myself doing, but I really have gone to enjoy the process.
The most challenging part of these entry-level weeks has been understanding callback functions, arrow functions, and writing the proper syntax. Learning the concepts and writing them down has shown me success, but I just need to understand how to reiterate it in a way that makes sense—like translating pseudo-code to code. I also feel as if I am become more technically aware of what is going on in my code, and on any given webpage I visit. It’s absolutely incredible how much interaction I have done on a daily basis and never seemed to notice.
I know that right now, getting in the reps is the most important task for me to take care of, I think this will allow me to become the best engineer that I can be.
